5 stars is not enough. Booking Chateau d'Audrieu was the best decision, and unquestionably one of our favorite parts of our 10-day trip around France. About a week before our arrival, I called the hotel to ask about bedding and was nervous because I don't speak French. I believe it was Fabien with whom I spoke. He immediately (and warmly) spoke to me in English and assured me that the beds are excellent quality and very comfortable. When we arrived very late, Nelson was so kind to run out to us and help us with our luggage. He gave us several tips on how best to enjoy the Chateau what to expect during our time in Normandy. He then walked us to our room. It was incredible. We have stayed at many 5 star hotels, but I don't think I've ever been as charmed by a hotel room as I was by our Junior Suite. The ceilings have to be at least 15'. The hot air balloon decor was so pretty. The wood floors were beautiful, the bathroom was very modern, and the bed was very comfortable! Everything was perfect. One thing I want to mention is the personal attention to detail. When we first arrived, there was a bottle of wine, a welcome note, and a jar of cheese crisps. Over the course of our stay, we didn't really eat the cheese crisps. One day when we came back from our outings, I noticed that they had placed a new jar next to the bottle of wine, with butter cookies (having noticed that we weren't eating the cheese crisps.) Another such moment was when I had taken a small bottle of apple juice from the mini fridge. It was delicious, from a local orchard. Later that day when we arrived back at the chateau, a larger bottle had been placed in the fridge. I should mention that these items were a gift and free of charge. I know I'm giving a lot of detail, but I used to work at the Ritz Carlton; these acts of attention were trained into us as something guests should expect from a 5 star hotel. But not all luxury hotels are created equal, and to be honest, I haven't seen it much over my years traveling. However, I was very pleased to notice it at Chateau d'Audrieu and was very appreciative. We never had a chance to eat dinner at the Michelin star restaurant, Le Seran, on property, however we did have breakfast each morning and the food was very fresh and delicious. I had a delightful avocado toast each morning and my husband had a custom-made omelet. He requested some sort of hot sauce. They didn't have any on hand, but went out of their way to make one with a special type of chili pepper. Alexandre Le Grand, Nazar, and another man with blonde hair (I wish I had gotten his name), were so kind in serving us at the restaurant! Everyone at the hotel whom we encountered was lovely and kind. Nelson, Fabien, Alexandre Le Grand, Nazar, Anna Marion, the nice blonde gentleman, (and one other lady whose name I didn't get)...thank you! You truly raise the bar for kindness, hospitality and luxury. We can't wait to come back again.

My third stay in three years and this hotel continues to get better and better - and that did not seem possible! Truly a treasure. Our group of nine women loved our rooms, the incredible food, and the grounds - but the staff makes Chateau d'Audrieu stand out as an exceptional property. One woman in our group has severe and complicated food allergies. Chef Samuel and his team made sure all of her meals were safe and incredible! Another woman in our group unfortunately got sick for two days during our stay. The staff took such great care of all her needs. Although I have stayed here three times and plan to go back - the Chateau is one of those "once in a lifetime" properties that you will remember forever.

This is a remarkable place to stay; the staff is excellent and the property is absolutely lovely. Everyone at the Chateau treated us like royalty, anything we needed, we just let them now and they responded right away. If we're ever back in Normandy we will plan to stay again.

We were greeted warmly and we loved our room, the service was also very good, we did have a little issue on the first day, but this was rectified for us, there was another little hiccup the next day but they sorted it too, they were very apologetic and they looked after us very well. We had afternoon tea one day and dinner both nights and the food was beautiful and tasty. The breakfast was also very good and great value for money with a lot of choice, the dish of eggs, bacon, mushrooms and spinach was just what you needed for breakfast, along with lots of local cheeses of course. The Donkey key rings are also very cute, shame they didn’t have any to buy, maybe next time. Would we stay here again? Absolutely we would 🤩

This “luxury” high price, five star hotel was worse than any motel off the highway. In fact, it was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Some of the highlights were that the toilet was in a closet so small you couldn’t even close the door without crushing your toes. The shower portion of the bathroom faced the main driveway and had a semi sheer curtain. I had to take showers in the dark. I tried to take a shower before dinner and there were no towels. The front desk person told me the laundry wasn’t ready and they would send some down when they were. I had to dry off with the bathrobe! We were a group of eight arriving at 5:45pm and were told we couldn’t even go to their bar for a drink and dinner was impossible. Instead they sent us into the village 20 minutes away at a cost of 100€ STAY AWAY!!! This hotel was listed as a Virtuoso approved hotel. Someone needs to check it out personally.

Do not be deceived! There is no luxury here. The restaurant could not accommodate us. Imagine being told this after a long day of travel to a luxury resort. The taxi ride was € 50 each way to get something to eat that evening. No offer to help with the cost. Also we were told the bar would be not available after 7 pm due to maximum capacity for the dinner crowd. The bar was empty all evening ? The guest rooms are not up to luxury standards. No plug ins for our accessories ,crawling on the floor looking for outlets. The room was small and the beds seem old. The grounds keeper gets the award for keeping the grounds beautiful. It appears that there is a shortage of staff everywhere. One of the worst run hotels I have every stayed at.

I had such high hopes for Chateau d’Audrieu. The hotel is a former 17th century chateau, surrounded with all the beauty of a Norman countryside. However this is where the Cinderella story ends. Most people that visit the hotel are coming from the US- likely landing in Paris in the am, then driving to Normandy mid day. So one would think arriving at a 5 star property in the countryside that there would be the option of lunch, no lunch is served ever! They informed me to drive 20 minutes to Bayeux, what? After a long travel day, get in the car and drive further. I have stayed in a lot of five star properties and this was a first for me. The property was completely empty, however they would not allow check in until exactly 3pm, like literally it was 3:02pm and they finally said a room was available. Based on the number of people at breakfast and dinner (same in both) there were roughly 10 rooms occupied. The front office staff were cold, not friendly and offer r not even a glass of water while I waited. The cherry on top is there is a bar but it is NOT OPEN, the entire stay no one is there. Not before dinner or after, I along with many guests stood and waited for someone to come, finally asked and the staff said they are understaffed and could not open the bar- what? After a full day of tours, you cannot get a glass of champagne at a bar, I was shocked (along with my fellow guests we stood with). Upon check out, I called for assistance with my luggage, called again, 20 minutes passed and finally I brought out myself. Again, front office did not say thank you or goodbye, just sort if stared at their computers. One more thing, I went to the night manager (who was in an office with the door shut and no one else around) I knocked and asked the bar and if it would open; and he said that was “not his problem” It was with the kitchen? Again, for this type of property who would say that or offer no assistance to his team? This is a Relais & Chateaux property and I am not sure if they are aware of how sub par it has become. I stayed in Ferme St Simeon prior, and it was FABULOUS, I also had friends that stayed at Chateau Cheneviere during the same time and I visited them for dinner and the service was phenomenal. Tons of guests having champagne and cocktails on the Veranda with a bar open all day (and a menu offered all day as well). Just wanted to warn others if you are heading to Chateau d’Audrieu and anticipating 5 star service.
