The Ennerdale Country House Hotel ‘A Bespoke Hotel’

Shocking experience! Firstly the trip booked stated 2 breakfast plus 2 evening meals , this was not the case with the hotel stating it was bed and breakfast only, I would have paid the lower rate if I knew this ! The room was then absolutely filthy and had a mattress at least 5 years past its best , solution to this was a mattress topper that really didn't help... The walls are paper thin and the noise from above was just ridiculous, sounded like a clog dancing contest .. Worst bit of the whole stay was the bathroom , you needed a shower after leaving the room never mind as you were in there , the floor tiles were all smashed and sharp and the grout was just black ( lifted the shower mat from the floor after taking a shower and it was filthy ) there was mold all over the skirting board and the shower didn't work correctly ( I have a video to show ) The room ( room 30 ) needs taking apart and starting again ... nobody should be allowed to stay in there ) I will be contacting the hotel separately and I believe a full or partial refund should be offered !

I unfortunately don't drive so had a bit of a hike i.e. walk to the hotel, if I had knowledge of local taxi firm I could've been faster.

After looking of other reviews and picture ms of the hotel online had great expectations for this hotel that unfortunately did not materialise. We booked a ground floor room that was reminiscent of old servants quarters as it only had a small window with a view of the grotty internal courtyard and back stairs that the staff used. It was also plain and tired and was basic to say the least. On the day of arrival the water was only luke warm and the following morning it was stone cold for a shower.

My Dad and I had a great couple of nights here whilst visiting the Egremont Crab Fair. It’s a fascinating old building and grounds with lots of quirks. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the night porter who served us some drinks and told us a little about the history of the building and local area. Nothing seemed too much for him. Obviously the building is a little tired and need of a bit of TLC, but this didn’t detract from our experience; perhaps even added to it.

Fabulous stay, comfortable room, amazing staff, staff couldn't do enough for us. Staff gave advice on where to go for the day. Food was amazing at dinner and breakfast was plentiful and set us up for the day. We will be back. Grounds were lovely and relaxing. Thank you so much

A country house hotel in dire need of upgrading with very little to walk to, 1 bar and seating area and the grounds described as manicured were absolutely not and the famous fountain out of action. Only saving grace was the lovely Allanha who helped make our celebration better

Went on the Littke Break, all inclusive package and was not disappointed. OK the building is almost 200 years old and so a bit rough around some edges. However if they invested money to improve we couldn't afford to visit!! Location is good and a short drive to most places you want to visit. Food was much better then expected ( although no veggie main meal option, but was for breakfast!) Hubby said the gravy was too die for so well done chef. Bed and pillows comfy, bathroom from the 90's but clean and adequate. The best part are all the staff, friendly, professional and can't do enough for you.. ( especially Rachel) Would recommend and would return if in the area again. Great stay ( except weather) thanks

Stayed for 2 nights on the all inclusive package. We’d read mixed reviews before going and were a bit sceptical but were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is a bit tired and needs some TLC in places but it’s comfortable enough and spotlessly clean. Decent selection of beers, wines and spirits at the bar. Comprehensive menu to choose from at breakfast and dinner and the food was excellent. The package included soup and sandwiches at lunch but they made packed lunches as an alternative when we went out. The best thing about this hotel, however, is the staff. They couldn’t do enough for us, all really friendly and prepared to have a laugh and joke with us.

The photos of this property on any booking platforms have either been photo shopped or they are very old. I have uploaded how the building really looks. It looks run down on the outside and it's very run down on the inside. The carpet in the room had been vacuumed but it was so old there were multiple grime patches where the dirt was really intertwined. The bathroom was old although that in itself didn't bother me having no hot water on the second night at all and no answer from reception really ****** after a long day hiking. The bathroom had been cleaned apart from hair in the plug. The bed linen was mostly clean apart from one stan. The room was huge but it's just a standard double bed. The window frames were rotting and the window lock was broken. There was mold around the window (see photos). Breakfast wasn't great. The lady on duty first gave us a dirty table. When I explained it was dirty and asked to sit somewhere else she replied very sharply she did not realise it was dirty, sat us on a table covered in crumbs then proceed to complain about other hotel guests being impatient. We gave it a miss the second morning as decided we'd rather pay somewhere else even though the hotel breakfast was included. This place is probably fine if your in the area for work and just want cheap accommodation. It's not a nice place for a break away. I actually found that the hotel is up for sale so I suspect no improvements will be done by the current owners now and maybe that's why the staff were a tad grouchy.
