Marina Plaza by Garvetur

Marina Plaza is the best location in Vilamoura. We had an out of hours check in and the communication was 1st class.

My wife and I are just back from a 9 day stay at these apartments and would recommend them. The location is fantastic you are only a few steps from the marina with an array of restaurants and bars. Check in was made so easy by the lady at the property office who took us to our apartment and showed us everything. Very clean with a lovely view of the marina from the balcony and everything supplied for a self catering holiday...even though we ate out all the time. Only fault for us was there is no lift and our apartment was on the 2nd floor and you had to climb 38 steps to the front door. Very satisfied and would give it 8 out of 10.

Great value for money with outstanding views across the marina

We arrived in Villamoura and dropped of at an estate agents to pick up keys to apartment and sign paperwork. The lady who dealt with us walked us back up the street about 2 blocks and across a carpark to the apartment then left us at the gate before we entered the building. Once inside the first impression was it was old and tired but clean. Small kitchen with everything needed for a self catering holiday. From the widow all views were facing the marina which was the best part of the apartment. The patio door did not lock so phoned the number given and someone came out and locked it, however once opened again it did not lock again. This was a concern as there was no safe in the apartment so we had to carry our money and passports around with us all week. The bathroom was old with a dripping shower and the shower screen was dirty with grease on the top and black mould at the bottom. There was a dressing room attached to the bathroom. Towel change is Friday and Monday and if not in these are left in a bag in room but the dirty towels were not picked up. On checkout day the time to leave room is 11am, however on our checkout day cleaners turned up at 10am and because we were still in room they phone the office. We asked if we could stay in room till 11.30 as taxi was picking us up at 12, we were told no but could leave our cases in their office in the estate agents. We left the room at 11 as instructed but when we went to office the door was lock, we had to just sit on a bench nearby and wait for the taxi. While sitting for half hour the lady who we had been dealing with came into veiw from a back room. I would not use this company or stay there again. The only positive I could recommend from this holiday is the location facing the marina and all the bars and restaurants around it.

There was good and bad things about this hotel. Pros very big, great location and great communication from the agent. Cons very old and desperately needs a refurb. No air conditioning but fortunately it felt ok, very noisy as in the best marina area. No wifi and I never book a hotel without wifi but again I managed with my own data. No swimming pool again I would never book a hotel without one, luckily the beach was very close. I found various defects in the rooms, broken light switches and a knife rammed into the shower holder to keep it in place. The kitchen was adequate but only one gas ring actually worked. Overall it was ok but wouldn’t stay again as I felt it was old and needs a major refit.
