The hotel reception is very welcoming and helpful, even if one of them didnt understand my English or mandarin! Overall its a good hotel with well meaning effort to offer above its budget, but in doing so, seems to lack the basic requirements of what you want in a stay. It also could be a little more giving.
Room is big, but you can hear people quite easily, both adjacent and above.(I don't know why on hard floors people choose furniture that can make loud scraping noises when they're moved, or indeed why people dont lift chairs, but there you go. Expect to potentially hear that anyway). Unfortunately, the bed is also uncomfortable and gave me a back ache after the second night. You can feel the springs through the mattress.
One other complaint would be a lack of food and beverage options. The buffet opens at 11:30am which is an awkward time to wait and the breakfast is ok, Chinese, but not worth what you pay for in my opinion. However, with little or no available refreshments around you dont have too much choice. Likewise, dont expect extra water without paying. The restaurant is basically one of those fancy private room types where you order from a limited menu. I just wanted a simple dish but they were all about 50+ rmb for anything substantial. The chef even came out, and seemed sad that we turned them down.
The hotel is pretty big and seems to have an odd layout with empty space here and there. But i quite liked this quirk. I think there is an indoor pool too. The place is suitable for families and there were quite a few when we were leaving, just as the holidays had begun.
Even so, its in a great location and if you come prepared and perhaps opt for a slightly better room then it is a good stay. You can just take a short walk from the hotel and be surrounded by a vast empty beach, or take a hike around the rocks and port. Like the hotel, Its good that it isnt too commercialised but could do with just a bit of comfort.
