"We booked this hotel as a stopover on the way from Northumberland to Essex The hotel is very tired. When we arrived it was very hot but there was no cooling. With the window open the noise from the adjacent A1 was so bad we had to choose between the noise or unbearable heat We discovered that breakfast was a “to go box” consisting of a small carton of milk to be poured into a cardboard box of cornflakes, a pastry in a packet and a small bottle of water - Useless if you can’t do dairy Possibly the worst hotel we have ever encountered. We left after 15 mins preferring to lose our money and drive a further 3 hours home. We asked for the breakfast boxes as we had paid for them but we didn’t eat them but did drink the smallest ever bottle of water I can only recommend that this place should be avoided. Any alternative you could find would be an improvement "

"What a totally gorgeous place we were so lucky to find. The welcome on arrival was wonderful and everything we needed to know was explained. It's a little corner of heaven. Three days in beautiful surroundings and comfort. Laying on sunbeds around a fantastic pool. We even met another fantastic family and spent such a fun evening sitting under the stars with a glass of wine. We would one hundred per cent recommend River Nene Cottages. The hosts Stephen and Philip have just got it right their welcome and kindness in making sure you are happy is second to none."
