The Inn on the Green

We have been staying here for the Christmas week, my wife and dog called Betty. Its an amazing traditional old inn with so much character in the building and surroundings. The customer service by the landlady the lovely Julie was first classl. All staff we have encountered have been very lovely, helpful and so professional. We were checked in by Ali on our first night who have us such a lovely welcome. The food and menu is very good, a very good choice and all meals we have had including the breakfast have been sensational. Julie cooks a lovely bit of bacon in the morning ! Hunters Chicken, Sausages and Mash and Surf and Turf burger were all very good. The prices were fair and reasonable. Good range of drinks and a couple of well chosen, well kept and pullled "real" beer such as Sheer Drop and Mosaic. Lovely. Big pub with pool table, billiards table and plenty of seating. Very cosy pub and very cosy rooms all decorated to a good traditional pub standard. We also paid for one of our oldest freinds to stay here with us as the place and staff was so good. PET FREINDLY !!! THIS IS WHAT WE HAVE MOST APRECIATED ESPECIALLY AS OUR PET IS PRIMARILY AN ASSISTNACE DOG /SERVICE DOG. Good Christmas decorations and trees ! It will be sad to checkout on Friday and go back to reality but we would certainly reccomend if you like traditional historic country pub style hotels . Sam Covill.

We have had meals here many times but have not been able to visit for several months due to illness. Now we have taken friends for lunch 3 times in the last month or so. The food is still excellent with a good menu. However 2 out of 3 times it has been such a long wait for our meal to arrive. Today was exceptionally slow although not many tables occupied. No apology for the delay. Fortunately we had no pressure to get anywhere afterwards but sadly we will think twice about going again.

Super busy pub, right off campsite which is a bonus, food was great and very welcoming staff. Only negative and hence the rating was the locals, crowding the bar, witnessed lots of visitors unable to get to bar due to locals crowing serving area, we did have an incident with one rather loud local who got quite nasty as we tried to get to the bar, she was very loud in her derogatory comments as we tried to get drinks.

A good welcome. Friendly and helpful staff. A very old pub with lots of character. A beautiful well kept garden. Good parking. Lovely breakfast and excellent coffee.The hotel was in a very quiet area surrounded by lovely countryside. Would recommend.

I cannot fault the food here and have enjoyed every meal I've had. I've just read that they have won a top award in food hygiene so well done and easily deserved. The Staff are very friendly but sometimes have to put up with rude people from the campsite (not all of them are rude but I have witnessed several occasions when they are). There is something for everyone, and the garden on a Sunday afternoon is wonderful when you can sit outside and enjoy a meal.

We were recommended this pub by the person whose property we were staying at. We went Sunday lunch. The food was nice and plenty of it. The staff on arriving, well the lady behind the bar, was a little grumpy when we arrived but the next woman we saw, who went through the cavrey options was really friendly and helpful. The issue was the stench of sewage outside when parking, the dog friendly area being more like a darts / snooker area with a few tables chucked in. There were a number of table of people eating when a local with his kid came in a just put the football on the TV. Great but the TV was above a families head meaning the man and his soon were sat looking at them the whole time. Not ideal really, I appreciate keep your locals happy but there should be a balance. What would stop me going back, in fact what did stop us returning later in the week was finding out that this pub only had 2 stars / points for hygiene rating and what seemed to be letting it down was everything. The nearby Crown Inn was much nicer.
