Kololo Game Reserve

If you want to enjoy a great safari, you must go to Kololo. A great team, super location. We enjoyed it much more then Kruger

We stayed here a few days during a three week trip through South-Africa and Botswana in July and August. It’s next to one of the entrances to the reserve. Our accommodation was large and well maintained. Staff were very friendly and the food was nice. The guides told us it’s difficult to spot game as the reserve is so wide-stretched and cars cannot go off-road, so we were lucky seeing cheeta’s and lions. There are also many rhinos and jackals. The reserve has beautiful and varied nature. The lodge is apparently Dutch owned; while we visited all guests were Dutch, and the majority of the lodge were Dutch KLM crew (also announced as such on every occasion); apparently KLM has some kind of deal with this lodge. They were quite dominant in the lodge and during the game drives, which we found unpleasant, also for our younger children. Other families felt the same. We made the best of it, but would not return because of this.

We had a wonderful stay at Kololo! What a perfect spot, next to Welgevonden Park! Beautiful chalets, small and big and very appropriate for groups as well. The swimming pool and bikes were splendid as well. And last but not least the very friendly staff (of resort and game drives) will make us remember our visit for a very long time!

What a fantastic lodge! Great service and great atmosphere overall! Game drives were really fun and a great way to learn about the animals as well. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us all kinds of facts about the reserve and animals. Will visit again.

Great place. You can even go on a walking safari on your own or on a bike tour, if the bikes work for you. It was great to see giraffes, while walking around in Kololo. The people working there were nice. Prepare for the cold houses in August.

Very beautiful well maintained lodge with extra possibilities like hiking, cycling in between the animals and swimming in the river. Easy to reach from Joburg, but at the south of Welgevonden game reserve which limits the area for game driving. Love the all inclusive option which gives you no surprises at the end.
