Everything is good about this hotel. Breakfast is the best in my two weeks Italy trip. Just one suggestion: please ask for a shuttle at the parking if you drive to Matera. Otherwise it is hard to walk there with luggage and you will easily lost in similar small roads.

Excellent stay! The staff was very helpful and helped us with our sightseeing plan, plus they booked us a calessino/tuk tuk for a last minute tour-which was very difficult.The room was amazing, cave like, balcony with the most amazing view.

We enjoyed our 3 night stay in Matera in a deluxe suite with a living area with sofa, bedroom, and a large bathroom with a bathtub in a cave. The location is outstanding as you can easily walk anywhere in Matera from Fra I Sassi Residence. We especially enjoyed the large buffet breakfast that included many types of sweet pastries, savory items, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, and even hard boiled and coddled eggs. This was the best breakfast we had on our 23 day trip to Italy. We were so happy that we chose Fra I Sassi as our home base to explore the fascinating city of Matera.

We drove from Rome to Matera and arrived in Matera with a street name for the car park which we had trouble finding !! Once we arrived the attendants were very nice, we had to walk and got totally lost and stressed !!!The staff should’ve communicated better and suggested a transfer either by car park attendant or catch a cab!. This was the only fault in our stay but very vital as so hard to find. It took 3 hrs till we finally got a cab and arrived, when it was actually a 15min walk but up and down stairs😂😂😂. Otherwise very well located residence with lovely staff and great room with great bath. Breakfast was really nice and great walks around a medieval Matera. Be aware there are no money changers in Matera so we could not exchange AUS dollars!!

Fra I Sassi was a perfect location in the Sassi. We were close to restaurants, meeting sites for tours and had the most beautiful sunset on our large open patio/ veranda. When the sun went down, the Sassi became illuminated. It is the most beautiful city in Italy. We booked a walking tour which was close. We wanted a nighttime tour and Rosita desk Receptiinist set us up for the tour. She also called a taxi and helped carry my luggage. She recommended a restaurant where locals dined and it was superb. I was worried about my luggage since the Sassi is hilly, but where the taxi leaves you for Fra I Sassi is flat, so Don’t let that discourage you. The breakfast was one of the best we’ve eaten on our trip. Don’t hesitate to book here.

You won’t find more attentive and helpful staff than at Fra Sassi to ensure you have a memorable time in Matera. Staying in a sassi cave is a wonderful experience, one you don’t won’t to miss. It is ideally located. The reception and kitchen staff were very helpful and nothing was a problem

First of all, we had a few issues with our travel arrangements. The hotel was very accommodating and made several phone calls on our behalf. We were very impressed. The location is in the heart of the old town so very convenient for sightseeing. The room was spacious and comfortable. A huge bathroom was built into an old cave. We had ample choice for breakfast. Overall, highly recommended

Perfect view, great location, near restaurants. The hotel room is in the cave , and lot of room. Tub on bathroom is great. Absolutely enjoyd our honeymoon stay here. The hotel staff was great and very friendly. They give us information about the must be visit areas and helped with bags. Please take small bags with you, there is lot of stairs. Also walking distance away is parking areas. Ask about hotel stuff and thei give you information about parking. Enjoy your stay! Regarding Mikko ja Veronika

WOW - This hotel was amazing! The location was perfect and our room was large and filled with character and charm. The staff was super-helpful and friendly, and the breakfast was great. Special thanks to the owner and designer, Christina, who helped transport us and our luggage back to our car when no other transportation options were available (talk about going above-and-beyond!). If we return to Matera one day, we would definitely stay here again! Highly recommend!
