"The room was very small and the experience was terrible. There was nothing there, and I had to ask for everything at the front desk. The water was cold from the second night onwards, and there was no hot water on the third morning. It wasn't fixed until the third night. There was no buffet, and you had to pay for food. It was very inconvenient and a very bad experience. I wouldn't recommend it."

"The Tivoli Maputo Hotel is located in the city center of Maputo, close to the central train station and its train museum (CFM), the "casa de ferro" and the Mozambique Bank Museum. You can easily walk to the Maputo Shopping Center in 5 minutes or go to the malls by taxi or Yango (the Uber of Mozambique). The hotel is very clean, large and the staff speaks perfect English and is very friendly. The room is spacious with a bathtub in the bathroom, toiletries and a hairdryer. The room has a large bed, a TV, a kettle with tea and coffee available. Walking around the hotel is safe but note that there is no money changer nearby. My stay was very good and I would be happy to stay at this hotel again."

"Great location, some 15 walking minutes to the seaside and the civic center. Very friendly and helpful staff at the reception. Rooms are clean and modern, however the quality of the furniture really isn't upscale as you would expect, considering the pricing. Great view onto the harbor from the 14th floor, really enjoyed it. Late check out was offered to me. The only real downside is the completely incompetent staff at breakfast. When I went there 8 o'clock in the morning, there were around 15 guests taking breakfast with around 10 employes being présent. So it was an easy match for them to serve the guests well. But they are just not doing their job. They are talking, hanging around and just doing NOTHING. After 10 minutes, I was standing up, asking if I can finally get a coffee. After another 15 minutes, had to jump from my chair to check if there is any chance to fill up my mug. SAD. The executives of this hotel should have a conversation with the Manager who is responsible for this mess, cause it ruins the otherwise good reputation of the hotel. If it continues like that, GOOD NIGHT TO YOUR 4 STARS! I am actually still giving a 5 Star rating here, for the great Ladies and Gentlemen at the Reception who where so helpful"

"Spent one night at the VIP Grand Hotel. First impressions were very good. Lovely ambience, clean and welcoming. Reception staff professional, on point and helpful. Bedroom comfortable with everything that one usually finds in a more upmarket Hotel. The garden and pool area inviting. The let down was the bar and restaurant. The bar service was lacking and unfortunately couldn't fulfill my request ... I asked for a glass of white wine, which it seems was not available, so requested a cider, which they unfortunately also didn't have. Dining - Dinner was alright, nothing special, but tasty. Very little choice. Unable to enjoy a glass of wine with the meal, as again no wine by the glass, neither white nor red. Breakfast was actually very enjoyable and is to be recommended. Unfortunately no effort was made by any dining staff to clean up after guests left. The tables were simply left, as were the spills and messes on the floor. (Left one wondering what the hygiene in the kitchen area was like.) With an improvement to the bar and restaurant VIP Grand, Maputo could be a top class hotel."

"The Malaguetta Inn is very conveniently located in the Polana Cimento A district and all of the city's attractions can be easily reached from there either on foot or by taking a short taxi ride. The entrance is hidden next to a bar on a fairly busy street corner. The area is considered safe, there are lots of vendors on the square in front of the Inn, but they are not at all pushy. The few rooms in the Inn (why there are I and II is not clear to us) are on the first floor in a hallway. The furnishings are very imaginative, lovingly made (is flower power the right term), the rooms are simple but functional, have A/C, mosquito nets, a desk, an open shelf (no closet) and good lighting. In our case the toilet/shower was outside the room and actually only intended for us, now and then another roommate was there too. The location is in a courtyard between high-rise buildings, so there is no view, but also little noise (except when there is a loud party on the terrace next door on the weekend). The price-performance ratio is absolutely right, the owners are very friendly and accommodating."
