I'm sorry to hear about your disappointing experience at The Buck Inn in Malham. Our visit today was far from what we expected after a lovely walk to Malham Cove. Upon entering what seemed like a quaint, family-run pub offering home-cooked meals, we were greeted with an unfortunate reality. The atmosphere was dreary, with dirty tables strewn about and empty glasses left unattended. The barman, sporting a top knot, appeared more irritated than welcoming, adding to the dismal ambiance. The state of the establishment was appalling, to say the least. The entire place screamed neglect and disrepair. The toilets were a nightmare, with once-white toilet seats now marked and discolored, resembling a shade of black. The women's toilet door seemed to be held together with a DIY wooden job, struggling to keep the latch in place. The odor emanating from the facilities was enough to make one's stomach turn. It's truly disheartening to see such potential squandered. The Buck Inn is housed in a beautiful building that could shine with proper care and attention. However, it seems that it has been left to wither away under neglectful management. Overall, our experience at The Buck Inn was nothing short of a disappointment. It's a shame to witness such a promising establishment fall so far from grace. We can only hope that improvements are made soon before it's too late.

Spent one night at the Buck Inn as we wanted to complete some of the local walks - the inn is right on the trail that leads up to Janet's Foss which was ideal. We had food in the evening which we really enjoyed, the mushroom wellington was delicious, and the service was attentive and friendly. The pub has a nice rustic feel and does need a bit of tlc in places but I do feel, based on our experience, that some reviews on here are harsh. Breakfast offers cereal or a cooked breakfast - we both had a veggie breakfast option with coffee which we enjoyed, although the bread and juice options were not refilled. It hammered it down the following day as we were out walking so we popped back in before our drive home for a warm drink and the landlord/manager gave us two complimentary mugs of tea which we appreciated. All in all, a pleasant stay.

From the outside this hotel looks amazing. Whilst the rooms are clean and big and have tea and coffee this hotel is let down by a complete lack of attention to the basics. The bar staff and. Breakfast staff need training in hospitality, the breakfast lacked side plates any spreads for toast, the orange was not kept stocked up the milk was never refilled. If you get upset by poor service then don’t stay here as it will spoil your stay. If you can laugh at how bad the service is then, the hotel is in a great place and a lot cheaper than the other competition. It does have free car parking, and it is quiet and has a rustic bar.

I really feel recent reviews are very harsh and slightly damning which is a real shame for a pub in a small village trying to run a business. We ate here as couple and the atmosphere in the food area was lively, the bar tender serving us was lovey and our chicken pie was delicious.

We spent two nights here and it’s possibly the worst place we’ve ever stayed. We rang several times well in advance of our visit to book a table for evening meals but no one answered the phone. We ended up booking meals at the other pub in the village as we overheard the barman telling others that they weren’t doing food so we never bothered asking. They wouldn’t even do a coffee for a couple of customers who decided to pop in. The bar is missing atmosphere, the staff we encountered were just disinterested, it seemed the barman did us a favour by serving us on the first night as we went into the bar at half past eight to be told last orders had been called. We did have a rushed drink then went and had a relaxing one in the other pub in the village. No one who came in was served with any welcome or enthusiasm, customers seem to be an inconvenience. The place looks ok from the outside, and we appreciated that this is an old building, but it’s in a state of decay. The men’s toilet door in the bar had “gents” scribbled on it in felt tip pen. Our room door came away from the top hinge when we opened it. Our shower was lukewarm, even on the hottest setting. The safety cable preventing the bathroom window from opening wide was detached. The toilet seat was loose and slid around, the paint was peeling from the walls, one of our bedside lamps was broken. The positive bit, well, the bed was comfortable with clean bedding, nice white towels and breakfast was ok. We did enjoy our walks and looking around the village, we didn’t think anything would be done if we complained so we decided that the Buck Inn was just somewhere to sleep for a couple of nights and we used the bar and restaurant facilities in the other pub.

Possibly the most disgraceful and appalling pub that we have been in. From the ignorance and complete disregard for customers from the bar man, to the gents toilets that actually has no sign but has “Gents” written in pen on the door. Can you believe it? Empty glasses just left at the end of the bar, filthy tables and toilets. One could go on. When we called in for a beer, two couples/groups came in. One group politely asked whether coffee was available, the almost glad to disappoint bar man, just replied “No”. The second group asked whether food was, available- again, same response in a wilfully happy to disappoint way. Malham has Beck Hall and The Lister Arms to eat and drink; both places offer good service in nice surroundings. One can only assume the pub chain are running the place down to sell the property. If they do believe what they are offering is worthy of being visited by customers, then rebrand as a comedy Fawlty Towers experience and then they may have a chance.

To anyone going to this pub. Check before you pay at the bar. The barman was rude and hurried me because it was a busy bank holiday. I looked at my bank account today and had been charged £23 for two pints of beer and a packet of crisps . Lesson learnt !

Only went for a drink but blimey. This place promises so much from the outside but inside it’s a soulless offering. I bet it was great at some point and could be but it has zero atmosphere from the disinterested staff right through to the toilets that have had the extensive signage on the door writer in marker pen. So glad we weren’t staying here. Malham has other lovely places to drink. Don’t be fooled into going into this one.
