Kimpton - Fitzroy London

Disappointing service for a five-star hotel I found my stay at Kimpton Fitzroy deeply disappointing. At check-in, the information from the front desk was brief. Even though I booked a basic room, it cost more than £300 a night. There was no still water in the room, the mirror on the wardrobe had old marks that suggested poor maintenance, and the position and height of the bedside table made it awkward to use an international plug adapter. I came and went several times during my stay, and most staff did not acknowledge me. At check-out, I stood waiting while three staff members were at the front desk. One was helping another guest; the other two kept their heads down and did not acknowledge that anyone else was waiting. This was a world away from my experiences at Rosewood London and Kimpton Glasgow, where staff acknowledged guests promptly even when they were busy. The building and public spaces here are beautiful, but the service fell short of what I would expect even from a three-star hotel. Even though hotels are busy with the start of the university semester approaching, I do not believe that excuses such disappointing service at a five-star hotel. As a young Asian woman travelling alone, I was left wondering whether I was the kind of guest this hotel wanted to welcome. For travellers with a similar budget, I would recommend the newly opened Imperial nearby. It is a five-star hotel, but in my experience its basic rooms offered more space, better cleanliness and amenities, and far better service.

The hotel is centrally located next to the station. There is a shopping centre nearby where you can get quick eats. The room is clean but a bit small.

Three stars. Two stars are to thank the two very friendly gentlemen who served us at the bar after 11 PM on July 18th, and one star is to thank the concierge for always being so responsible and helping us with our luggage. This was not a particularly pleasant experience. I booked the "Premium Double Queen Room" for one night. Upon entering, I noticed the room looked different from what was shown on Trip.com. I informed the front desk staff, and he explained that the website photos displayed the city-view version, and since we were only staying for one night, they couldn't give us that specific room. He also claimed the room we received was the same size. However, when I checked Trip.com again carefully, I discovered that our room was not the 33-square-meter Premium Room at all, but rather a standard twin room measuring only 24 square meters. Although I appreciate the front desk gentleman offering us two bar vouchers, we still couldn't hide our disappointment upon returning to the room. I felt deceived because the room we received was far from what we had been eagerly anticipating. It was so small that our family of three couldn't even fully open all three of our suitcases. That being said, it is worth mentioning that the two gentlemen working at the bar that night treated us with great hospitality. Thanks to them, our stay that evening was left with some beautiful memories. I sincerely suggest that the hotel provide honest photos of the actual rooms for future guests' reference when booking, rather than brushing us off with arbitrary internal rules that we couldn't possibly see during the booking process. Charging nearly £550 for such a night left me deeply disappointed. This was our family of three's last night in London, and the one we were looking forward to the most out of our 5-day, 6-night trip. It is truly a shame that it ended in disappointment.

Very beautiful hotel and nice staff. Location is convenient, close to the British Museum and Kings Cross station.
