Very well equipped, this home boasts 3-bedrooms, 2 full baths (one has bath/shower) and a pull out couch in the office. Enjoy the convenience of amenities like AC, WiFi, and a brand new laundry room. Rental includes all linens for bedrooms, bathroom towels. Stay for a log weekend or the whole summer!We have lots of big beach towels and there is plenty of room to store your rental bikes on the back porch. You’re a short walk to delicious coffee and treats at Grays Daily Grind and a short drive to all the surrounding beaches and sights. Keep in mind this is a rental and there are NO FOOD ITEMS IN THE KITCHEN. Please bring everything you need and remove all food items when you leave. The house, formerly Edward Howland's farm, was the largest in Little Compton as of 1895 and included 500 acres. Today, the soft grey shingled house sits on one landscaped acre, surrounded by 200 acres of working farmland, preserved by the State of Rhode Island.The house has four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, and over 3,000 square feet of living space. Next door and across the street are beautiful farm stands with gorgeous produce, baked goods, and friendly neighbors. The house is five miles from South Shore Beach (public), five minutes from the LC town Center, and 15 minutes from shopping in Westport. The first floor has a roomy gourmet chef’s kitchen that opens into a large family room and adjoins a dining room and a second smaller library/sitting room with its own TV. There is also a powder room on the first floor. On the second floor, there is a spacious master suite with a full bathroom, sitting area, cathedral ceiling and wall of built-in bookcases. There is also a guest bedroom with two twin beds, a guest room with one queen bed, and another full bathroom. On the third floor, there are two small bedrooms with two twin beds each.Stone walls enclose the front lawn. A large flag stone terrace at the back of the house is a welcoming place to enjoy the pastoral views. There is a built-in gas grill in this patio area. Quakers arrived in Little Compton in the eighteenth century and remained a strong cultural presence well into the nineteenth. By 1900, Quaker meetings at the nearby Friends Meeting House and Cemetery (National Register of Historic Places) had ceased, however, Edward Howland continued to worship there each week until his death in 1903. Accordingly, a historic plaque on the house reads: “E. Cute Cape style house with hardwood floors, sun room, outdoor private patio, garage and plenty of parking. Easy access 3 steps and all rooms are on one floor. This property has a huge yard with an ocean view of our town beach, Westport Point and Elizabeth Islands. The living room has 2 couches, a fireplace and a mounted large screen smart Roku TV. The house sits on a dead end road with light traffic for a more quiet atmosphere. The front yard is huge and is very private, the back yard is bordered by a stonewall and tree line for privacy and there is a sheltered outside hot & cold shower. The master bedroom has a king size bed, two closets, and TV. The second bedroom has a bunk bed with a full size mattress on the bottom and a twin mattress on the top. There are 2 bathrooms, one with a tub/shower and the other with a shower. The basement has a washer and a dryer along with folding tables. The floors are hardwood and have been refinished and the kitchen which has ceramic tile floor. You can see the town beach from the house and there is also a town 'dog beach' on Sakonnet point which you can use. Little Compton is a very safe town off the beaten path with excellent restaurants just a short drive away. The Atlantic Ocean shore runs along our entire south end (Rhode Island Sound and Buzzards Bay) and the salt water Sakonnet River runs along our entire east shore. Little Compton is a very quiet, peaceful seaside farming community featuring beaches, a winery, farm stands, a quaint village called The Commons, and many historical sights. Some PLACES OF INTEREST are The Commons, Sakonnet Wine Vineyards (daily tours, and tasting), and near by Newport and Bristol. Daytrips to Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Cuttyhunk and Block Island are reasonable. In addition to our own vineyard, in near by Westport there also is a vineyard, a brewery and great restaurants to visit. Little Compton has public beaches (Southshore Beach, Goosewing Beach, Lloyds Beach) and a couple private beaches (Warren's Point and Briggs Beach). Southshore Beach and Goosewing Beach can be seen from the house. We also have a great harbor at Sakonnet Point with views of our light house, Elizabeth Islands. Sakonnet Point also features Lloyds Beach and the harbor shore both of which are open for dogs to swim at.WALKING, BICYCLING, and ROLLER BLADING are a joy on the flat, beautiful roads and paths in Little Compton. Bicycles can be rented at Earl's and at Little Compton Adventures. SURFING CAMP run by locals features surfing lessons for kids and lessons for women over 16 as well as private lessons for all and surf boards can be provided for lessons (Little Compton Surf Camp website www.lcsurfcamp.com ). There are TENNIS and Pickle Ballcourts in town and a playground for children. GOLF: Montaup Country Club is 15 miles away in Portsmouth and is open to the public. Sakonnet Golf Club is a private course designed by one time summer resident Donald Ross just 2.5 miles away. This very private, comfortable, serene estate is walking distance to beach and within 2mi. of town. Our home is near the sea and surrounded by meadows and stone walls. It is very private retreat - the deer, songbirds and crashing waves are your closest neighbors. You can walk to the beach. The house has been completely renovated with repurposed wood, expansive views and an open floorpplan. We are less than two miles from the town center of Little Compton and about 1.3 mi. to the Nature Conservancy's glorious Goosewing Beach. We are walking distance to two fantastic farm stands: Wishingstone Farm and Sweet and Salty Farms . Enter through the blue barn doors into the downstairs living room with a stone fireplace,chairs and a fold out full futon, This room also has a huge closet behind a sliding barn door filled with extra towels and blankets. This main floor has 3 bedrooms and two full baths. ( one bath has a 6 ft. antique claw foot tub and heated floors) Washer and dryer are on this floor along with a second refrigerator . The closet in the laundry room holds cleaning supplies and first aid needs.Climb the stairs to the second floor. You may notice that all of the building material is reclaimed locally. (We attempted to add patina to new constructionbut are certified free of lead paint) The tall ceilings are covered in reclaimed barn wood. The beams and upper floor stone fire place mantel and all the trim were salvaged from a historic Fall River textile mill. The woodburning fireplace works well and we supply wood for you first nights fire. On this floor is the kitchen, dining area, second living room and master queen suite with attached full bathroom. The large dining room table can accommodate all guests. This large second floor room boasts a broad expanse of sunny south east facing windows which capture the sunrises and hold midday heat even in the coolest of months. The house is "an upside down house" with the kitchen and main living room on this second floor to capture the view of the meadows. The left hand side of the library shelf offers many books to peruse... The master suite has a queen bed and full bath with heated floor. A loft ladder behind the fireplace takes you to the upper loft which has two twin beds, a television, a telescope and distant views of the ocean. Or come outside to indulge in the peaceful rhythm of the south shore....On the second floor we have a large outdoor porch where there is an expandable cedar dining table that can accommodate everyone along with a gas grill and more seating. An outdoor sectional sofa is the perfect place to sip coffee and watch the sunrise to the east or to enjoy an evening beverage while watching the sunset to the west all the while listening to the waves....Life outside can also be enjoyed walking the trails cut through our 6 acres of meadow. We have a circular stone campfire area with outdoor seating off of the south east corner of the house. After a long day outside one can also wash off in the large outdoor shower . (In the late afternoon if the sun is just right it heats up the shampoo and shower gel on the shelf) Then hang your towel on the outside line to dry and relax in the hammock!
