We decided to use the leisure facility if you can call it that I was told no towels by reception so he got one from another room asi again expressed I was not happy.  I was tetchy as I had driven from Worcestershire to Cornwall then to Brighton. I asked about the steam room and sauna which he pointed us to.  He said steam room needed to follow instructions and it was quick to turn on.  I said OK.  When we got to the sauna it was cold and turned off by this point and having seen the state of the facilities I was way past been pissed off on this.  I was also feeling bad as I wanted my son to relax before his audition in the morning.  The steam room heated up in 5/10 mins so used that which was nice.  The spa bath was not hot at all and for some reason stones in the swimming pool possibly for effect.  The pictures of the leisure facility show the state of disrepair.

Never been to such a disgusting room in my life, how they have the nerve to let this room out was beyond me, the carpet was dated filthy and lumpy, pillows stains all over them, broken chair, chipped mugs, the list goes on, they should have paid us £92 to stay there, I wouldn’t let a dog stay there, needless to say we did not stay and we have to get in touch with yourselves for a refund

What an horrendous experience. Really this review deserves a zero but that isn’t possible to score. The (once beautiful) hotel has been allowed to go to rack and ruin. It is like an abandoned building with one person manning the reception, bar etc. The room was filthy and totally delapidated. All the external woodwork is rotten and you can see daylight through the holes in it. One hole had been stuffed with a used tea bag. The paint is falling off the walls and windows. The window in the bathroom boarded up. Stains on the ceiling and walls damp to the touch where the roof leaks. Nothing had been cleaned properly as it is impossible to clean rotten wood and damp walls! There was a pack of one month out of date sushi in the fridge (which wasn’t turned on as not enough plug sockets). It smelt terrible and was attracting flies to the room. All in all an absolutely sad and shocking experience to see how this hotel has been let go. Emergency exits outside were blocked with discarded furniture. It cannot be a safe place to stay. It certainly shouldn’t be renting out rooms at £100 per night! My garden shed is way more luxurious and that is not an exaggeration. Plenty of photos taken to prove just how horrendous this was.

The White Hart Lewes. What an amazing place! I got goosebumps the moment I walked through her doors. If you don't have the ability to look past her external appearance, I feel so sorry for you because this lady has soul.... and wow! She dates back to the 16th century and will close, to the public, for the last time on the 5th of November 2023. This old lady has seen so much over the centuries. Love and hate in all its various guises. Clandestine meetings, chivalry, innocent flirtations, secret rendezvous and illicit love affairs. What a gal. The parades and fireworks in Lewes town on November 4th was her swan song. Sail-on silver girl. Love you 🥰

Very unpleasant experience. I was in a group of four, two of us got drinks and the two other didn’t as they don’t drink alcohol. We were sitting on one sofa only and the manager came up to us and aggressively told us we couldn’t sit there if two of us were not drinking, even though there were other people sitting around without drinks. We were initially confused, as two of us were paying costumers. A minute later she came back and gestured to us that we needed to leave there and then. When we asked her why we all needed to get a drink she said those were the rules, and when we asked why we weren’t told that initially she said ‘I make the rules’. She essentially kicked us out saying we were taking space from people with drinks, even though two of us were literally still drinking our drinks that we purchased there. She was incredibly rude and was obviously having a bad day and decided to project her frustrations onto paying customers for absolutely no reason. Prior to that, the people sitting on the sofa we eventually sat on were eating Domino’s pizza they obviously didn’t buy at the pub, but they were allowed to eat their pizza there whilst we sat on the floor having our drinks. Interesting priorities… I suggest the manager learns how to treat her customers respectfully and realise that being a manager at a pub doesn’t make her Queen of Lewes.

Revolting !! Had I not arrived late I would have left. It was like being transported back into to the 1970's but not in a good way. Hotel bar and downstairs was empty. The hotel is old and has so much potential -but my room was filthy, stains and moth holes in the carpet to the extent I did not choose to remove my socks- the bathroom was grim, no hot water - lino on floor grubby and cracked. The previous occupant's empty shampoo tube was still open on the side of the bath. To be honest it was only £ 85, but really the room I was in was not fit for purpose. There was a breakfast buffet laid out, I was the only person in the dining room, which was also grubby, I only chose pre wrapped products. When I checked out there was no-one about to discuss my experience with. There is a pool, but based on the rest of the Hotel I choose not to use it. The photos on Trip advisor and *********** do not represent the reality. I'm generally happy with tired traditional hotels but this was revolting.

My recent stay at The White Hart Hotel in Lewes was a journey back in time, where the allure of the historic building and charming terraces provided a unique experience. While the hotel has its merits, it's evident that additional investment is needed to bring it up to modern standards. The standout feature of this hotel is undoubtedly its picturesque setting in the centre of lewes. The terraces and the building exude a timeless charm that transports you to another era. Walking through the halls and lounging in the common areas feels like stepping back in time—a delightful experience for history enthusiasts. However, the rooms, though comfortable and clean, lack some of the modern amenities that are now expected in most hotels. A bit of an update in this regard would enhance the overall guest experience. One area that could use significant improvement is the gym and pool area. It appears to have remained unchanged since the 1980s, and unfortunately, not in a nostalgic way. The outdated equipment and décor in this space were somewhat comical, and it's clear that a renovation is long overdue. Despite these shortcomings, the staff at The White Hart Hotel deserves commendation. They were polite, attentive, and always ready to assist. Their dedication to ensuring a pleasant stay did not go unnoticed. In conclusion, The White Hart Hotel offers a unique and charming experience, perfect for those who appreciate history and classic architecture. However, to truly shine in today's competitive hospitality industry, some investment in modernizing the rooms and updating the gym and pool facilities is essential. With these improvements, this hotel could become a standout destination in Lewes.
