The plus point of this hotel is that it’s right in the city next to all the must see attractions of Kozhikode. Malabar palace used to be one of the top hotels in the 90’s and it seems they are still existing because of that goodwill. The hotel has a rundown feel and surely needs a makeover. The clout of this hotel is dipping. Lack of security measures, inexperienced and laidback attitude of the staff manning the reception, poor day to day management are all adding up to the negatives. But I must complement the security guards and some of the slightly older staff members who are still keeping the tradition of exemplary service going on. And for heaven’s sake, try to get the tidying up done before or after business hours, the last thing we need is a welcome shower of dust while checking in. Pic attached. I had an excellent stay, the room was very spacious, clean, and had the amenities I needed. Breakfast was delicious and with many choices; it was a very wide buffet spread. Great staff, especially Sabin. He was very helpful, not just on checkin and checkout, but also helped with arranging transportation and giving directions, etc. I also had lunch and dinner at their restaurant. All the curries and fish fry served with lunch I got were delicious. The service was amazing. The location is great- I would recommend to friends, and will definitely stay again if I'm back in Calicut.
