"This was the worst hotel I ever stayed at in Waterloo. I checked in at midnight and couldn't get in directly; I had to call the front desk from outside to open the door. I had paid for the booking on Ctrip, and they wanted me to swipe my deposit—not via mobile app, but a physical card. I told them my card was in my bag, in the car, and my husband was parking, and asked them to give me the room key so I could swipe it myself later and avoid having to call them again. They wouldn't give it to me, saying I could just call them when I wanted to come in… Is there really such a lack of trust? The next morning at 9 am, while my family of three was still asleep, the staff frantically knocked on the door repeatedly, only asking if we wanted our room cleaned. I admit I forgot to put up the "Do Not Disturb" sign, but such rude knocking was truly speechless. When we woke up and went out, we told the front desk that our room needed cleaning, and they said that cleaning hours ended at 1 pm, and there was no cleaning available that day… It was truly unbelievable. That evening, we returned after 11 pm, and the main door was locked again. They said we could swipe our room card through a side door to get in, but the card wouldn't work for two nights in a row. The first night, the front desk came to open the door and said it might have been demagnetized because we had put it with our phones. The second night, they didn't say anything and just opened the door for us without even an apology… There was no bottled water in the room; if we wanted some, the front desk charged $1 per bottle, and the beverage machine was broken… I realized that when I booked, I only saw the Chinese name of the Kaiyi Hotel and overlooked the word "Inn"…"

The hotel was very helpful with parking needs as we had a utility trailer with us, the restaurant was terrific with a wonderful selection, fair prices and such lovely servers. Check in and check out was quick and efficient. The location was central to all that we needed. The hotel was quiet at night and the rooms were clean and well appointed."
