Its a total Waste of Time and Money to stay at any property at Sam Sand Dunes. Here's our honest feedback: If you book a camp named "X" from a travel website, then you will be given a place "Y" because almost all the camps goes by a single name - Sam Sand Dunes (where Sam = Name of Village). So, you actually never know where you're going to stay until you receive a tent. The camps are loaded with stags. There are no "family exclusive" camps. The people who operate the camps are all "smoke chimneys" giving you a passive smoking experience all the time. People would make noise the entire night disturbing your sleep because tents are not noise-proof. The tents are very basic and the washrooms are stinking. We couldn't tolerate the camp and had to leave the place. Ultimately, we spent the night at Hotel Antra in CVS Colony Jaisalmer. If you're visiting with your family and seeking a nice peaceful experience, then you'll receive an exactly opposite. This entire Sam Dune Camping thing is nothing but a small scale tourism scam. The dunes at Sam are less than 1km in diameter. Images are all fabricated - either from middle east or Sahara desert.. The Thar desert dunes are spread on a very limited area with lot of flora. Don't expect a vast expanse of plain sand dunes. The White Desert @ Kutch, on the other hand at least delivers what it advertises. Jaisalmer doesn't have much too offer except the palace and the limited dunes. This area can be explored in a single day from morning to evening. Sand Dunes are located around 40km from Jaisalmer and they can be reached by car in 45 minutes. 1 Hour just before the sun-set is sufficient at the dunes. Its better to stay in Jaisalmer town and explore it during late evening / night.... There are very good comfortable and clean hotels in the town @ much lesser cost compared to the ill maintained camps.
