Amazing hotel with lovely service. Loved the relaxed atmosphere and all of the amenities. We also really appreciated the complimentary additions such as welcome drink, nightly ice cream, morning probiotic drink, ramen etc. Given we had tattoos we could only use the private onsens but this was not an issue! There were no queues for any when we went so we had pick of the bunch. There is a lot of damp and mould around them, though, but this is to be expected with so much steam and heat all the time. We stayed in a Western double room and the photos don’t do it justice! It was much larger than shown and we loved the small touches such as toilet shoes, a torch and bottled water. Would highly recommend!

Great value hotel. Especially private onsen. Not too croweded and very friendly hotel even can not speak Japanese. I want to come back again with family.

This onsen is very affordable and offers great value for money. One of the best things is the availability of private onsen baths that don’t require any reservation—you can simply walk in and use them. There are quite a few private baths available, so the waiting time is usually very short or almost none. However, there aren’t many dining options nearby, so it’s best to come prepared, especially if you plan to stay for a while. Overall, it’s a great choice for a relaxing and hassle-free onsen experience!

We had a wonderful stay at the Shuzenji onsen Katsuragawa.The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making us feel very welcome from check-in to check-out. Our room was spacious, impeccably clean, and the bed was so comfortable. The hotel's location was perfect.

They have seven kinds of private onsen, which is great. We booked a half-board package, and we received two meals that were great, but the variety of food was not sufficient for the price. One of the rooms we booked had a bad smell, but we called the front desk, and they provided us with a new room immediately.

The hotel felt a bit dated, but overall it was a good experience. It's more affordable than a typical ryokan so it's a good choice if you want to stay at Shuzenji for a couple of nights instead of just one

We stayed here for 2 nights and throughly enjoyed ourselves. The ryokan has a no shoe policy and it felt so homely walking around in the free socks provided. The private onsens were so well maintained and never too crowded. Staff were impossibly polite!

A very family friendly hotel with generous complimentary ice-cream and yakult during the day and late night ramen. The hotel has no shoe policy which make the entire building comfortably clean. The public onsen is relaxing and has everything we needed.

Not easy to get in this hotel if not driving. But you can enjoy a quiet and rural environment there.

The resort is truly remarkable with good food and onsen facilities. My rating is purely based on the resort experience. However, I will like to provide feedback on the reservation experience on trip.com. The pricing indicated on trip.com is not totally transparent. At the time of booking, I indicated 2 adults and a 7yo child to get accurate pricing. The amount was prepaid with a small fee JPY450 to be paid at hotel. At check in, I was shocked to learn that we are expected to pay for the child room rate at JPY22k+. That was not indicated on the “to pay at hotel’. Trip.com customer service officer replied that the requirement was indicated on the email confirmation sent. This is upsetting as I usually used the mobile app and relied on available information to make reservation. It is not my habit to check email confirmation given the information on the app is correct. Pricing should be made transparent at point of booking and not after booking. And out of ‘goodwill’ they offered me a compensation close to 50% of the child room rate. I have been using trip.com since covid and this is my first time having such issue. I hope my experience can benefit others who is booking this accommodation with child.
