I enjoyed my stay at Casa Azul Maya and would recommend it as a nice place from which to explore the southern part of Isla Mujeres on foot. We enjoyed walking from the room to the east side of the island and then south along the rocky coast on a foot path to Punta Sur, where for $100MXN, you get entry into a preserve with walking trails on both sides of the narrow southern tip of the island with amazing views of crashing waves on rocks. The hotel has no pool or restaurant on site, but has an agreement with two beach clubs to provide those services. A wristband gains you entry into the beach and dock at Kin Ha, which is about 100 ft down the street, and the Mayan Beach Club, which is at Playa Norte. We only spent time at Kin Ha, and it was very pleasant. As part of our stay, we enjoyed free off-the-menu breakfasts at Kin Ha. I really enjoyed the Pablano Omelette each morning. We also spent a lot of time there snorkeling just off the wooden dock. They provide snorkeling equipment, but we had our own. There is no sandy beach, as the waves crash all the way up to under the wooden deck at all times, but there are plenty of chairs on the wood deck to sit and enjoy. Snorkeling was so-so, as the water was murky while we were there, but we still saw loads of gorgeous fish, particularly around the end of the dock. There are 4 small pools, 2 reserved for small children, and the lowest for swim-up bar/dining, so if you're an adult and have a desire to actually swim there's a small area for that. The hotel room itself was clean and efficient, but not much on frills. We stayed on the lower floor, so our view from the room was simply a narrow street, but honestly there were such large trees and vines even the second floor had only limited views of the ocean. A fridge, microwave and water jug refilled daily were all useful to us. The beds were comfy, though there were no blankets and no matter how warm it is I often desire a blanket at night. The in-room safe was easy to use. The shower leaked a little into the bathroom tiles, especially with longer showers, so it kind of got watery and messy with 4 of us showering each morning, but that's a minor thing since we spent most of the day in water anyway. The wifi was pretty weak, but who cares? I was there for the ocean, not the web! The front desk staff were very nice. They allowed us to store our bags in the office for 4 hours after checkout since our next location didn't check-in until 4:00. The front desk also called a cab for us to take us to the next location.
