Dreary, shabby, really a microcosm of England now. Resentful, dog-eared and lacking in any charm. We left early because we couldn’t stand the negativity of the place.

Premium price NOT premium venue. Wine was awful and at £12 a glass you'd expect a decent wine. We sat in the garden and every table had cigarette butts underneath. Not what you'd expect in a place charging so much. Very large garden with very few people. Not surprising really.

The Olde Bell is probably the oldest Inns in England established in 1135 AD as a guest house for the nearby monastery, When a visitor of importance arrived they would ring the bell to inform the monastery. For my gas to have stayed here include Sit Winston Churchill, Dwight D Eisenhower, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton to name but a few. It has been very tastefully renovated in keeping with its origins there are beautiful gardens a tennis court and other amenities. Believe me when I say it takes a lot to impress me but this beautiful peaceful hotel has done just that.

The pub and grounds are lovely, the rooms are disgusting. Arrived for a 2 night stay. I targeted this because it was literally in between the locations I needed to be. Arrival was good, on my way to my room in little to no time at all with clear instructions. I had a smile as I arrived toward the secluded courtyard, but took warning of the sign which read 'uneven path'. This wasn't an issue, it was the moss and algae coverage making it super slippery. Now this wasn't an issue for me - but a warning to others who may not be so able. I opened the door and immediately noticed the water stains and peeled paint on the ceiling - what a shame - the nervous expectation of something great was ruined immediately. Unfortunately it didn't get better, far from it. Where to start... No headboard for the beds so the pillows rest up to where grease/dirt marks are on the walls from previous sleepers heads - this was grim....!!! Table had a massive black stain; Every wall was scuffed to hell The floor was horrific, definitely hadn't been swept in a while Not a single window sill had been wiped - in a very long time Curtains mouldy from the floor to about metre high and some bizarre and questionable stains on them Every skirting board - none a single one has been wiped, dare I say - ever Previous paint colours on the radiator Bed frame damaged - sharp corners - watch your shins Bathroom no better, silicone filthy - which should be the easiest material to keep clean right. The bed itself was comfortable and the shower hot. But even the blanket on the bedding was stained. The whole place needs a serious rethink about what standards of cleaning they have. To top it of the room didn't have towels so I had to go to reception and pick these up myself. Seems almost irrelevant now. On checking out I gave the feedback and was promised it would be logged as a complaint - I followed up with an email and the response was - thanks for your feedback, our apologies - it has now been deep cleaned. Zero sincerity. I'll forward this and the video I took to BW head office and ask them if this is the standard of their 'signature' collection - whatever than means. The photos are me screenshotting them from the video which doesn't show it in its worst light.

We booked the Norman room for our small wedding reception. On arrival, the table was beautifully laid and our Prosecco was served by Vincent, our attentive host. The meal was great and, as the sun was shining, we explored the gardens and other function rooms to get some memorable photos. Our bedroom was lovely with a personalised congratulations card and bed strewn with rose petals. The bathroom was spotlessly clean and modern. The room overlooked the courtyard and garden. Perfect. Breakfast was good and our stay ended with tea on the patio. Many thanks to Leah, the wedding coordinator, and all the friendly staff. We will be back soon, maybe for our first anniversary!

Last minute decision to book a night away with an absolute bargain of a price. We were given a lovely surprise with an upgraded room. All Staff were brilliant with a big shout out to Robyn for her fantastic multitasking customer service; from being front of desk, bar and food service ( also training a new member of staff at the same time). Being a Best Western, most menus are pretty much the same from suppliers. Food we ordered was good and well cooked; on par with what I would say a M&B’s Vintage inn or Country inn. Breakfast was plentiful with a hot menu to choose from and continental while it’s being cooked. Only negatives I would say were, that the mattress to the bed is coming to its end and need of replacing ( I guess we are spoilt with our own at home). Also, menu had a few items missing, but again, I’m guessing it was the end of a busy bank holiday weekend and no deliveries on the Sunday/Monday. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel due to its history and lovely village, close to the river setting. Would I come back again, yes I would.

We had the deluxe room, nothing about it was deluxe, it was filthy, hairs in the sink,on the dressing table also covered in tea stains, dirty cups, and so much more. When we complained all we got offered was a free drink, no manager apparently on duty. The food was terrible, no staff around. We left our details for the manager to contact us but of course that never happened,no one answers the phone it just goes to answer machine and the email address keeps bouncing back as not available. This is a terrible place and ruined our reason for being there which was a family wedding. KEEP AWAY

The hotel could be so much better , We stayed for 2 nights staying in the barn over the road . When we walked into the rooms we could smell dampness , the stool at the desk was damp to touch , blinds stained from the condensation that sits on the windowsill .. The bathroom was shocking , shower was absolutely filthy , the shower screen isn't big enough so water goes onto the bathroom floor , leaving a damp corner evidenced by the fungi growing in the corner and through the tiles .. Tables in the dining room were really sticky and some of the cutlery was dirty .. One meal arrived and it was cold in the middle . We stayed here thinking that a best Western signature Hotel would be of a decent standard , how wrong we were , worst hotel I have ever stayed in and definitely not worth the £225 I paid for a 2 night stay .

Room was nice and looked cute. Dusty in places. I was disappointed that I didn’t get a room like one of those pictured . However overall was good. My room was located across the road from the inn. I slept well though as was quiet. Breakfast was the highlight. Truly delicious.

I stayed at The Olde Bell in room 52 for 3 nights last week, during this time the only housekeeping that was done to the room, which was very small and in a bad state of repair, the shower was cleaned on 1 day at my request. For the whole of my stay no bins were emptied and the bed was not made. When I queried this with Reception on my last night, as I had been out during the days, I was referred to a very obscure notice stating that they were saving the planet by not using harsh chemicals for cleaning and you have to ask for your room to be cleaned. This was not mentioned when I arrived and how emptying bins and making beds involves harsh chemicals is beyond me! In reply to the survey that I completed on line when I questioned 'room service 'as stated on their website the reply was 'this refers to the cleaning of the room and not food and drink being served in guests rooms! Under amenities on their website it also states 'air conditioning ' this being a fan in the wardrobe! 'Coffee maker ' very few sachets of coffee and a kettle! All this for over £100 a night- how this hotel calls itself 5 star I do not know.

Stayed for an evening in a “deluxe” room that was as far from deluxe as it could’ve been. Room 22 in the carpark side. As another review mentioned - it’s like school trip accommodation. The bathroom was so tired and dirty that I didn’t use the shower as it was to disgusting to use. The blinds in the room were marked, frayed and beyond repair. Some of the lights didn’t work and the general feel is that it needs full refurbishment. The comments from others in the block were very similar. Bar prices are steep - £26 for 2 pints and a vodka soda. Breakfast service was poor - food ran out and after waiting 20 mins for it to be replenished- gave up and left early. £200 for a room that wasn’t worth half that and the feeling that this place is relying on past glories. Considering some of the reviews - there must be some positives, unfortunately I didn’t see any.

Stayed over at The Olde Bell whilst attending a wedding in the village. We were staying in one of the 'car park' rooms so had very little experience of the 'olde' charm of the place. Parking good. Room OK in a Scandinavian minimalist sort of way. No cups for the tea/coffee and difficult to ensure privacy without having curtains fully drawn throughout our stay. Breakfast (continental) was OK - really did not find any of the cooked options at all appetising and the presentational style was far more Premier Inn than I had expected. Not very stylish and certainly not worth the £185 we were charged for the experience.

The ultimate in quaintness. Just one of those places you have to stay at to experience that English experience from the old pub to the windy stairs and slightly uneven flooring. We had a good 2 nights there with a meal at the restaurant on one night and breakfasts both mornings. Very comfortable bed. Staff were all very accommodating. Recommend taking a stroll down the road to the Lock - so tranquil first thing in the morning.

The positives- good availability of parking, area is quiet and friendly Gardner. Food at breakfast was good with options for cooked and continental breakfast available. The negatives- cleanliness of room and table in the restaurant was very poor. The floor in the room was not clean and not vacuumed properly. The table we ate at for breakfast was sticky and not been cleaned properly my elbows stuck the table whilst eating. Staff were not forthcoming in regard to telling us when breakfast was served or where to go to access this we had to guess this for ourselves. Amenities in the room were not good lighting very poor with the main overhead light not working properly and very limited tea and coffee provided. Lack of staff on reception to inform of the above and request more coffee. Bar staff rude and ignoring us when we wanted to order a drink whilst our room was so called being cleaned. No one at reception when we checked out so could not raise any of these issues with staff directly as there was literally no one there.

The wonderful staff at The Olde Bell excelled themselves for our private dinner party in the Music Room. Every effort was made by Vanessa and her team to ensure that our every need was promptly attended to, even to the extent of installing a huge TV screen at the last minute so that our guests could watch the football final!
