Stella Maris

Superb location in quiet relaxed surroundings, delicious hotel with a wonderful bar and restaurant with a great view. Nice rooms with the necessities that should be there. The food is exquisite and delicious, using seasonal food, locally produced. All the staff, from the Hotel Director Lui to the cleaning staff were sweet and welcoming and all exudes a super wonderful relaxed and embracing workplace, which to that extent rubs off on us guests. We will definitely be back.

We went on their Easter Stay and had a great experience. Truly friendly, helpful staff committed to making their place a success. Great food, drinks, rooms - and of course the view. Longing to go back ind the summer as well to enjoy more of the beautiful surroundings.

Everything was lovely. The site next to Svendborgsund could not be better. The hotel is a beautiful building, old and historic, but new restored. Nice people everywhere. And the morningswim in the cold ocean made me happy. Last time, more than 15 years ago, we visited Stella Maris was it oldfashioned missionary hotel. And I love the few memories from that time you see around at the hotel Og nu de historiske aspekter uddybet lidt videre, men på dansk på grund af det lokale aspekt: Jeg er barnefødt på egnen (for mange år siden). Kogtvedparken og Wiggers Parken med alle de tætliggende huse i området tilhørte engang mine bedsteforældre, som har bygget det ældre, røde hus overfor. Det var dengang en givtig hestehandlervirksomhed med hestestalde og store, langstrakte hestefolde med græssende heste overalt.

The Christmas lights all around the building were a very good indicator for how our Christmas stay would be. Warm, welcoming and very cozy. Since we had no family plans for the holidays I booked the Christmas stay. And this placed lived up to all the hype. Do not miss out on this wonderful place! Even on a grey winter day the place and very friendly staff makes you feel more than welcome. We enjoyed the coffee with homemade Christmas cookies upon our arrival. Later we had a traditional Christmas dinner, and missed absolutely nothing from our family traditions. Later they served us homemade chocolates in the big living rooms. And the director is both a very capable cook and bartender. Ask him for a dark'n stormy! We can highly recommend this place. No matter the size of the rooms, they are nice, and you will want to stay in the living rooms, go for a walk or sit in the very nice bar. We are very much considering going back for their Easter special.

We had a really great getaway and we enjoyed the calmness. The nice food and drinks were perfect, as well as the beautiful room we had. We are already planing our next visit with friends in the new year.

What a beautiful place & excellent service at Stella Maris. Being spoiled starts when you are driving down the small road with high trees on both sides leading us into the entrance of the property. We were met with greetings of warmth that sets the standard for all staff throughout our stay. Our room was at the 1st. floor with a fantastic view over Svendborgsund (ocean) and was very cozy (hyggeligt) providing full feeling of comfort and relaxation. Entering the ground level of the restaurant area, firstly you walk into the center area where entrance to the terrerace in front of the sea is, you are welcomed with a beautiful renovated stylish bar which becomes even more interesting having a very kind & professional bartender opening his full competences & know-how. We have selected the 7 course menu with additional wine menu accompanying for full taste. My first suggestion is take your time and let the restaurant staff - kitchen & waiters/waitresses as 1 team, spoil you with there excellent competencies & service for a full evening of joy & tasting at full. Hereto having a sommelier that not only represents a high knowledge of wines & tasts but understands the skills of presenting & informing not only of the wine but also to the food and the reasons behind choosing the parings in full of all taste presented throughout the meals. Received at little farewell gift - the Stella Maris coin, which can be traded into a refreshment at next visit - for us it will be traded in & cant wait to be spoiled once again by all staff at Stella Maris.

Checked out at 11. Sat in the common areas for 10 minutes to appreciate the nice decor, but as soon as peeked in to the restaurant, were seen to the door by the hotel manager, telling us to leave as they were closed. It was a grotesque situation. Unwelcoming attitude. Unapologetic. Won’t be coming back.

If you come to Denmark and don’t stay in this hotel then you will have missed a treat. Beautiful location, excellent and comfortable rooms, delicious food and superb wines. The crowning glory are the staff, they are exceptional. We stayed four night and would have stayed longer if it were possible. Not to be missed…
