We booked a 6-day stay in an Oceanfront King Suite in June. After a wonderful stay in 2018, we chose The Cove again. Especially since we were reassured by the hotel’s transition to the Relais & Châteaux group, which has an excellent reputation in Europe. Unfortunately, we were completely disappointed and cannot recommend this hotel in any way. About the room: The Oceanfront Suite we booked had moisture problems from the very beginning. The room had a musty/moldy smell, and I woke up in the morning with severe headaches and difficulty breathing. As we later discovered, there was a dehumidifier in the room. The reading fluctuated between 70% and 80%. We had to empty the dehumidifier ourselves 4–5 times a day (including at night). When it rained, the housekeeper placed a towel against the inside of the door to limit water from coming in. Furthermore, we discovered a severe pest infestation in the room. For example, there were countless ants around the front door, around the air conditioner, in the bathroom, at the entrance to the balcony, and on the nightstand, larger beetles on the ceiling and cockroaches on the floor (see photos). After 2 days and numerous complaints, we were given a different room. We had to change rooms a total of 4 times over the course of 6 days. About the food: On our Bahamas cruise, we had previously stayed at the Caerula Mar Club on Andros and The Island House in Nassau. Having been spoiled by the meals there, we were completely disappointed by both the quality and the service. I have to admit, the portions were large and warm - but they were anything but enjoyable. At times, the staff seemed bored and simply placed the food on the table without a word. Regarding service in general: The staff seemed overwhelmed and poorly trained in many areas. Housekeeping was very sloppy. Something was always missing—whether glasses, towels, the activity schedule, bottle openers, etc. The room was left unlocked after “cleaning.” I’d never experienced that before. On the second day, I briefly met the hotel manager, Nick Cooper. He said to me, “You know what’s nice when a day of vacation comes to an end? You’re one step closer to going home.” I looked at the manager in disbelief - until then, I’d always been sad to have to leave a vacation paradise. Today I know just how right he was. But things were about to get even worse. After we left, our credit card on file was charged multiple times by The Cove/360Bahamas Ltd for increasingly large amounts - totaling over $90,000. Emails to the manager Sally Cooper were always answered with nothing but apologies and assurances that they were “looking into it.” To this day, we have received no refund from the hotel.
