We stayed at the Clifton a few years ago and embraced its quirkiness, e.g. uneven floorboards and old-fashioned features. We especially loved the room with the corner bath, so we booked again recently with this in mind. Unfortunately, this hotel is no longer just quirky. No effort appears to have been made to carry out simple maintenance and repairs. The bath couldn't be used as there was no plug. Even if we'd requested a bath plug, the filthy shower curtain (jammed closed on a flimsy piece of bare wood), would have been in the way. Floor and wall tiles were cracked, with some missing completely, and bedroom windows were unsealed. This hotel can no longer be classed as being in a quiet area, as the shouting from outside a bar opposite (on a Tuesday and Wednesday night) went on until after 4am. The smell of ********* as we walked back into reception last night was also interesting.
