After reading some of the reviews before staying at this hotel I have to say I'm not surprised. I totally agree with the comments that this is not a true 5 star hotel at all. The positives are the location, the pool area and the rooms (to an extent). From one way its only a short walk to the medina and from the other it's a short walk to the beach bars. The pool area is well maintained and very attracting. The rooms are a good size with comfy bed and powerful shower and they are very clean. However, we started off by having to change rooms as the room we were first given had a chipped bath - all the paint had come up off the bottom of the bath so it was unusable, the staff solved this pretty quickly by offering us a room of the same standard one floor above. Nevertheless, I find it shocking that a 5 star hotel would not maintain their rooms in the first place. We found the cleaning staff and concierges very friendly. Some of the breakfast staff and beach staff, less so. One day we sat on the beach beds and felt looked down on and were not treated as well as some of the other guests. This really put us off and prevented us using this area again. Not sure if this is because we are a younger/mixed couple? Overall, the hotel is lacking in a lot of areas and the Accor group need to look into this. I would definitely visit Essaouira again but would probably rent an apartment since the beach and medina have so many options anyway!

Pronto estará bien, el hotel en Marruecos es básicamente el mismo y hay un pequeño episodio en el medio. Esperamos a que el camarero de kung fu en la planta baja pensara que nos marchamos y dejamos las cosas en la habitación, pero todo está bien. Mirando hacia atrás, todo lo demás está bien

We had only one night to stay in Essaouira and we most definitely made a superb choice - Villa Maroc is quite unique and so tastefully decorated - the rooms are spacious and all of them very stylish - each room is in one of the four interconnecting riads and the whole place exudes charm and tranquility. We were lucky that Fatima showed us a few of the rooms and ..... wow..... how beautiful they all were. - the view from the rooftop is spectacular, overlooking the bay. We felt very welcome and the staff makes you feel like you are family - nothing was too much trouble. At night time the place is so beautiful - we had supper there and the communal places are candlelit which gives the place such a relaxing atmosphere - even the fire was lit in the cosy bar area - we will definitely stay there again and would thoroughly recommend a few nights at Villa Maroc - you cannot be more charmed ! We are a couple from the UK.

I don’t think I’ve had a better first impression of a hotel. Once you enter it looks like a palace. Then our room just blew us away. Not just large, but also beautifully appointed; everywhere you look is a mosaic, lovely colours, amazing shapes, just stunning. Location is also fantastic. Inside the medina means just a few minutes walk to the main square and the souks. Or, if you want the beach it’s about a five minute walk to some lovely spots on the ocean. A substantial breakfast is served in the atrium or, as we preferred, on the roof terrace, with wonderful views. We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the Mumtaz Mahal.

This place was stunning , every corner was a gem. We stayed in Morocco for 2 weeks visiting 5 cities and our time at Salut Maroc was the highlight of our trip. Special thank you to Rachida and the rest of the staff whose attention to detail and welcoming demeanour made our trip one to remember! They made us feel so special, can’t wait to be back! Saturday night entertainment with Amin kamal was amazing especially with the view at the rooftop restaurant!

La villa Garance, dont l’emplacement est central à Essaouira, a un charme évident de par son passé et la restauration réalisée. L’accueil par son propriétaire y est chaleureux. Le personnel du petit déjeuner attentif et très gentil. Le salon du rez de chaussée mériterait toutefois d’être plus investi, c’est peut-être le cas lorsque la cheminée fonctionne ? Une parenthèse fort agréable dans la charmante ville d’Essaouira! Martine

Jann & Jo stayed in Riad Al Madina September. A wonderful, traditional Moroccan Riad that is welcoming, comfortable and has really lovely, helpful staff. Located within the Medina, the surrounding streets are charming and interesting, with so much to see and do all the time. There is a huge choice places to eat or get refreshments very close by, from where you can watch life in Essaouria. We were happy with our rooms, which were clean, comfortable and interesting. We enjoyed our breakfasts every day and had a couple of delicious evening meals there too; as well as sometimes enjoying a glass of wine while looking at the night sky from the open central courtyard. A big thanks to all the staff who we will never forget for being so friendly, helpful and efficient – a great team! A special thanks to two of the catering team, Zach and Yosef, who were so kind and caring during the hours following the earthquake. Highly recommend this Riad!

Step back in time and luxuriate in the Orson Welles suite, walk to ocean, or relax in the gorgeous pool. This gem retains its original charm and is a completely delightful experience. Listening to the morning calls for prayer with the windows open was just a wonderful experience. Highly recommend. Note this is not a modern 2023 Radisson so you should be a bit more flexible with your expectations at this legendary place.
