Marine Hotel

Overall I’d say this hotel is just okay. I would not describe any of the staff as warm or inviting though they were not definably rude. In the bathroom there was something black in the caulking and grout. It generally seemed to be needing a deep clean and update. There was little to no noise barrier in the room. You could hear absolutely everything inside and outside of the hotel.

The staff were very professional & customer service oriented. My room was clean, but poor lighting in the bathroom, & a light bulb over the sink not working. Also did not notice a hairdryer in the room.

The location was more convenient than I expected -- less than 45 minutes to get to the city centre and less than 10 minutes to Howth! But more importantly, the staff were wonderfully helpful and the rooms and property are gorgeous. Can't beat waking up to that view of the water!

The Marine Hotel is like an old family-run hotel - excellent location, lovely rooms, wonderful views from the 'sea view' rooms, but staff need to communicate with each other more and take ownership of their jobs. Had issues with repeatedly requesting my room to be cleaned and coffee/toiletries to be replenished and door keys not working. One night there was a fire alarm that kept going off because the poor man who was on duty had not left the code to turn off the alarm. He was also the barman the next night and was a smashing lad. Ciara, the Receptionist, was amazing and went out of her way to help with my room choices. Suggestions would be to include conditioner with the toiletries and have housekeeping be more vigilant when looking for rooms that have the 'please clean' sign on the door so customers don't have to keep asking for their room to be cleaned. When I raised a concern about a particular issue, the hotel was exceptionally nice and sent wine and strawberries with an apology which I very much appreciated. I will always stay at the Marine for the location and the views, but would hope staff have a bit more training on customer skills.

I can only assume this place was once a nice hotel and it is now trying to glide by on that reputation. Our rooms were not available until more than 30 minutes past the check-in time. They refused to store our luggage for us in a secure location, so we had to sit in the lobby and wait for our rooms. We tried waiting in the bar, but they only had 2 employees covering the bar and dining area, so no one was there to assist us. Once we did get our rooms, the toilet in one room did not work. They said they would fix it while we went out to dinner. When we got back they said they did their best but it still wasn't working great. We asked the front desk to schedule a taxi to take us to the airport the following morning. I explained that there were 4 of us with luggage, so we would need a large vehicle. The next morning, I verified that the taxi was still scheduled and they confirmed it was but that they had not ordered a large enough vehicle for the 4 of us with luggage. Thankfully we asked her to get an appropriately vehicle, which did arrive in time, or half of us would have struggled to make our flight. Throughout each of these issues, the staff was unhelpful and acted uninterested in addressing or correcting these problems.

Wasn’t allowed eat in the bar like previous occasions. Food service was very slow and the Thai curry was quite bland. The breakfast service on the other hand was top-notch.

The room was excellent but had vet pour ventilation. Due to the hot weather we asked if we could have a fan as we have had in other hotels but was told there were only 4 and they had been given to other guests. Fir a hotel with nearly 50 rooms this was very poor and adversely impacted sleep.

Overall the hotel is good, nice and clean and the staff are helpful and friendly. The superior room was quite small, particularly the bathroom. The breakfast was 20 euros each with no flexibility if you just wanted cereal, tea and toast. We had this at a cafe across the road for half the price.

This hotel was where we had our wedding reception years ago so we decided to visit again whilst in Dublin. It’s about 30 mins from the City Centre but it backs onto the sea. The lawns at the back go right down to the beach and there’s a little gate to get onto it from the hotel garden. We had a good room and brilliant bathroom with a rain head shower which felt very new. The dinner was good and reasonable too and we overlooked the sea from the restaurant. I slept well and the bed was comfy too. The staff were very helpful at breakfast as we didn’t want a large buffet just tea and toast so they said we cld just pay for a kid’s breakfast instead of €20 for a full Irish breakfast. The only comment of improvement would be to add a shelf or cupboard behind the bathroom door so there wld be somewhere to put a toiletries bag instead of the basin or the toilet cistern.
