My girl and I were in the area for a couple of days to see the whales that frequent the area at this time of year (Jan - ...Mar? is whale mating season, they make the journey up north to the Bering Strait afterward). We looked at a few hotels in the area and opted to stay here. The property is a three-level structure with the habitation units on the 2nd and 3rd floors. On the 3rd floor is a newly-opened terrace-cafe with a decent view of the city. The city itself (the downtown area) is well within walking distance of the hotel, the small old-town park and square about one minute away on-foot. An ATM with reasonable withdraw-fees ($27 MXN - just over a dollar) is within 100m of the hotel (for comparison, some ATMs charge upwards of $170 MXN! Nearly $10 USD!) We lucked out as the terrace cafe had JUST opened for business (grand opening!) and were able to enjoy breakfast there when we weren't supremely hung over from the previous night's escapades. The food was FANTASTIC and my vegetarian girl enjoyed her weird stuff just as much as I enjoyed my human food. An eclectic variety of coffee drinks were available that were just as good as nearby cafes. The family who operated it were incredibly knowledgeable about the area and spoke perfect English. I think we spent well over a few hours over the course of our stay talking about the area, life as a whole, and shared/ differing philosophies. Delightful people! Any concerns we had (more blankets, toiletries, etc) were immediately addressed. The wifi was decent enough that my girl was able to do her online-work for the two days she couldn't have someone cover her shift. The ONLY downside would be noise level - as it is close to the heart of the old town and more touristy downtown, there is generally a high amount of street traffic from 0530 - 0000. If you're a heavy sleeper, no worries. If you're a light sleeper, some earplugs may be necessary. Note that we stayed in the room under the Terrace Cafe - other rooms may be quieter. All in all I rate it 5 burros con sombreros/ 5!
