Some of the reviews have been a bit harsh. The hotel has been encroached upon by rising lake waters, and in the evening waves were crashing on the defenses. Well, placed for a visit to Rusizi NP and the airport, Food was fine; staff were polite and spoke English. Quite busy.

Excellent hotel resort. Good pool, lovely view of the lake and deck chairs on the beach. Big breakfast, helpful staff, good AC, etc. etc.
About 20 minutes into town, about 10 minutes to the Rusizi national park entrance, and about 20 minutes to the airport.
Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika is unquestionably one of Burundi’s finest destinations, A top-tier destination offering pristine swimming pools, excellent service, offering guests a unique blend of lakeside serenity and refined hospitality. The sweeping views of the lake set the scene for peaceful relaxation, while the well-maintained swimming pools invite you to unwind in style. The reception is warm and professional, reflecting the hotel’s commitment to quality service. A true culinary highlight is their renowned Mkeke fish—deliciously prepared and deeply satisfying, it’s a must-try for any visitor seeking local flavor. The rooms and public spaces are kept impeccably neat, making the entire stay feel effortlessly refreshing. Highly recommended for travelers, diplomats, and vacationers looking to experience Burundi’s best with comfort and authenticity. Bravo to the team!

Honestly, don’t expect too much. The hotel is huge, but old and also not really well handled. The beds are like stones as there are no slatted frames. I have back pain from hell. The food is not even average. The bun of the burgers is so hard that you need a saw to cut it. The pizza is fatty. Breakfast buffet is not even worth mentioning. Why they charge so much money for the hotel I don’t understand. The pools are dirty and the gym is old fashioned.

I honestly find it hard to understand how they can charge so much for such a poor hotel. The rooms and especially the bathrooms are very old and low quality. The mosquito net around the bed does not close and I had mosquitoes buzzing around my head the whole night. The food in the restaurant is very poor and very slow to serve. It took them 20 minutes to make an omelet for breakfast. The ATM outside the reception almost never works. Frustrating. It's ok for a couple of days stay, but the price is outrageous for the service you get.

My wife and I spent a night here during a recent trip to Burundi. I rated it as a 5 because it’s really nice by Burundi standards. If it were elsewhere, I’d probably give it a 4. Our room was pretty basic but everything worked. It had AC which is not a given in this region. They have a very nice lap pool with lots of tables and chairs around it. They have a pool bar and a restaurant with the same menu. The restaurant has some outside tables that are just a few yards from Lake Tanganyika. We had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant. They have a varied menu for dinner including some African dishes. Both the food and the service were very good. For breakfast they had a nice buffet with lots of fresh fruit, baked goods and African dishes that were good. We were able to pay for dinner with USD at a favorable exchange rate. It saved us a lot of $. Note that if you charge meals/drinks to your room you will be paying at the official exchange rate. Overall we were happy with our stay and thought that this was a good choice for Bujumbura.

All staffs were so kind. And we enjoyed the beautiful view. In the morning, we saw hippo in front of my room . That was amazing. And when we have breakfast we met another hippo. Food was good too. My son really enjoyed swimming in the pool. If I have a chance I 'd like to come here again.

Stayed here for 2 x 1 night, as it is fairly convenient for the airport. The hotel is very comfortable, with a good double bed, a hot shower and a decent restaurant. The on site ATM was not working whilst we were there. Unfortunately, Lake Tanganyika has risen as least 2 metres recently, which has eaten up the beach, with the lake water almost lapping the pool area. Given the proximity to Bujumbura, it is probably not wise to swim in the lake. There are 2 pools though, which although we did not try them seemed popular enough.

The staff are lovely--really kind, fun, accommodating and experience-oriented. They were a highlight. The overall resort is quite picturesque, and I enjoyed dining poolside each evening. The pizza at the restaurant is outstanding, absolutely delicious and rivals even the best of Italy. The downside? The rooms are inconsistent--I stayed in two different ones at different times. They tend to be darkish, and mildew-smelling, and there is visible mildew and maybe black mold (?) near the AC and in the shower area of some bathrooms. The beds feel a bit dated and hard. However, they are otherwise clean--spotlessly mopped, clean toilets, sinks, etc. So, a bit of a mixed bag. Places like this are expensive in developing countries in Africa, so, don't expect what you might get in, say, Europe or east Asia or South America for these prices. I still recommend this place because of the excellent, caring staff and the fun and tasty restaurant.

This hotel was actually the highlight of my stay in Bujumbura. It has a nice lush garden, comfortable rooms, a fantastic view of the beach, a good restaurant and an ATM. Everything is very convenient and you don't have to get out of the hotel for much. Only point to be improved: the souvenir shop could have more stuff (they didn't even have fridge magnets of Burundi)
