I learned to swim in that pool when I was 6 or 7. That was a very long time ago when it was a private house owned by my uncle. (Ignore the date on this, it was a required field, I haven't actually been there since the 1980s). Spent probably hundreds of family weekends there until uncle John's partner died and he sold up and moved to Spain. Bit of a nostalgia trip for me reading these reviews, nice to know people are still enjoying it as we did - a temporary escape to the country, and from what I can see the village hasn't changed much. Is there still that rickety wooden bridge over the stream at the bottom of the garden?

As part of a four person walking party, we were given a wonderful welcome by the force of nature that is Roz Boot. She is a born hostess and a natural storyteller. Her house is a thatched vision of English village life, full of memorabilia of a life well lived, and with a very lovely garden. Roz sorted out dinner for us at the local pub (it is expensive), and gave us a lovely breakfast spread and a decent packed lunch for the day. The stay was very good value.

Roz may have to be the BEST host I have ever experienced!… Down to earth and friendly, we needed to wash some clothes (as we were walking the Ridgeway) - so she let us use her washing machine and radiators. Bedroom was perfect, amazing breakfast and packed lunch too. Roz had also booked us into the village pub for an evening meal. Feel like we have made a friend for life 🥰

Pros - attractive village, helpful to baggage carriers, good breakfast and generous packed lunch (at extra cost) Cons - gosh the landlady doesn't half talk! Also no WiFi and the house has seen better days. Pub meal in village massive, expensive and gave me a nasty stomachache.
