Centrotel Hotel

The places around are kind of weird, but the hotel is great! J

When we are in Athens with our automobile we return to Centrotel again and again because of its convenient location and private, enclosed parking garage (a rarity among Athens hotels). Some may consider the neighborhood unsafe, but my we have never felt threatened while following common sense precautions that one should follow in any big city. It’s close to city transit and long distance train stations and a taxi ride to central Athens is less that 5€.

The hotel is in a ordinary neighborhood but inside is well presented. Did not have any issues walking around at night as some reviewers may mention. It is located 5-10 minute walk to either the Larissa or Victoria metro's. The rooms are clean, big with good storage space as are the bathrooms. Noise from other rooms is an issue especially hearing people talking and when they use the water it sounds like it is coming from your bathroom. There is no coffee/tea making facilities and no water bottles are provided. A room service was missed and staff said I had the "do not disturb" card on door handle, however, it was on the "make my room" side, so they provided me with some fresh towels. The continental breakfast is huge but the food provided may not suit some guests, however, I chose to get coffee and toast as room service which was 6 euro and delivered within 10 minutes. Check out was good and was able to leave luggage for a couple of hours. Overall, good value if happy to be out of the central part of Athens.

My wife and I where very content with Centrotel: tidy, quiet, modern, very friendly and helpful staff. We had a really wonderful room! The quarter is not touristic but authentic, it shows the „normal Athens“. At Victoria square you can sit nice and order a drink. The hotel is only 7 minutes away from the metro station, perfect to visit the many attractions of Athens.

The hotel is ok. The neighborhood is a bit dark. The center is about 2 km away. About 400m to the subway. Near Kebab, mini market. The price is right. I recommend it if someone just needs to sleep. The rooms are clean and have stars on the ceiling;)

We booked this hotel for 4 nights in July. We arrived early because our ferry arrives by 6:30. The receptionist was grumpy that "we could have cancelled your reservation because we tried charging your card 3 days ago and it was declined." There was nothing wrong with my card, I even checked just to make sure, and asked the receptionist "Why would you charge my card 3 days before arrival without notice, and if you thought it was declined, why didn't you contact me ?" he grumpily replied: "we have to charge your card in advance in case you don't show up", gesturing upset, as if I had done something very wrong. He then said there would be no rooms available until 13:00. The key raft was just behind him and there were plenty of keys on it, so there were rooms available, just that he was not a friendly person. We left thinking to return at 13:00, but then I thought that I should try find another hotel, why should I stay in a hotel where they treat their guests as if they were expecting some crime to be committed ? After-all, we go on holidays to relax, not to be treated like third class citizens. So I looked up some hotels, found one that I liked and moved there. Centrotel is located in a very shaggy area of Athens. I have no regrets that I left and will definitely not go back.
