Hotel Matelote

Really enjoyed our 3-day stay at Hotel Matelote (and in Antwerp in general). Great central location, but very quiet. Loved our room and the general feel of the place, and Eric was a wonderful host. Would definitely stay again, recommended!

Very comfortable and spotless room in the heart of old Antwerp. Could not wish to have a better location. Excellent breakfast which is free if you book directly with the hotel. Owner/manger Eric is exceptional friendly and helpful in booking transport and making other suggestions.

I wasn’t quite sure what to make of the place when I first arrived – there was no lift, although the stairs were manageable - but I was absolutely blown away by the place. The proprietor could not have been nicer, and spent several minutes going over a map he gave me and recommending the various Christmas markets I wanted to see. He allowed me to check in around 10:30 AM and upgraded my room to one that was at the top of the hotel, which had exposed wood beams still supported by the pegs that had been driven into them hundreds and hundreds of years ago. The room was extremely spacious, the bathtub was amazing, and it was the coolest hotel I stayed in by far during my trip to Europe. There is no on-site parking available – you’re at a garage about a five minute walk away, but unlike other places I stayed while I was there I felt very safe navigating to the garage when I had to go to the car. I left before breakfast started, so I wasn’t able to check that out. Even though the Christmas markets in Belgium I thought were a little disappointing compared to their brethren in Germany, this location is perfect to check them out. The overall hospitality and vibe of the hotel made it a fantastic stay! Highly recommend.

Erik was lovely. Arriving early was not a problem and he helped us park the motorbike right outside. He gave us a map of Antwerp and pointed out places of interest. Really comfortable bed and good shower. Very quiet hotel with lovely little Mediterranean style terrace to sit and have coffee. Good breakfast with fresh bread and pastries. Can’t wait to go back to Antwerp and wouldn’t hesitate to go back to this hotel.

One of the best accommodation during our travel. A very spacious and clean bed and bath rooms. The room contains a mini fridge and a welcome wine. The front staff manager, Erik, gave us a good overview of the location & the city, he also made sure we got fresh bread for breakfast. The breakfast itself offered a very good selection and ample eating table for the guests. It is just a few minutes walk from the main square and seemingly a safe area. If my wife & I return to Antwerp, for sure we would like to stay in this hotel again.

We arrived in Antwerp a day prior to Viking River-cruise and everything was perfect about the family run Hotel Matelote. It is perfectly located in the old city, Historic Center, and remarkably, a 5 minute walk to the Viking ship. Our room was huge and big, modern bathroom. Breakfast selections were great and hotel has a charming courtyard that you can choose to eat your meal. No doubt we would stay here again when we find ourselves in Antwerp, a remarkable city.
